Becoming a Software Movement...Posted 2015-11-04
At tretton37, we believe in challenging the norm to progress. Now it’s time for us to challenge it once again. And as we also believe in transparency, I’d like to share some important information with all of you regarding some exciting changes here at tretton37.
But first, let’s take a quick look back at how we got here...
Since our foundation in 2010, we have never wanted be just another traditional consultancy firm. We have always aimed to be a knowledge company. Right from the very beginning we have strived to create value for our clients, our employees (better known as ninjas) and also for our community by focusing on the notion of sharing knowledge.
This ambition is not only our official mission statement, but has also become our strategy in a nutshell to earn your admiration by exceeding expectations in what we do best – sharing knowledge.
So far, in order to fulfill this ambition, we’ve done our utmost with our specialist services alongside all of our efforts for both internal and external knowledge sharing activities - many of which you may already recognize.
However, throughout the years we've envisioned an even bigger dream for a knowledge company; namely creating our own R&D Labs and innovative Knowledge Sharing Platforms alongside our specialist services.
This new way of working would give us the opportunity to work both with our exciting client projects as well as innovative products, start-ups and new ways of knowledge sharing. By gathering and merging experiences from all of these different perspectives of software development, we’d gain unlimited access to inspiration, innovation, knowledge and competence. With this access, we would be able to create even greater value for our clients, our people and our community.
And so, having debated this idea since our foundation, we realized in mid-2013 that what we wanted to create was more than a company, more than an organization - it was a movement.
For us, a software movement is something that encompasses every single aspect of software development; a world-class innovation cluster that has the ability to create and/or lead the most exciting trends and technical advancements in our industry. And so this has become our new goal.
You're probably wondering why we haven't done it before. Well, because we knew we needed time to create the right circumstances. We knew, right from the start, that we might have risked the whole vision had we moved too fast and too early without being properly prepared. Over the past few years we have worked hard but remained focused as not to lose sight of the bigger picture of this goal.
Now, this will of course entail some minor structural tweaks for our company. The new set-up will involve creating a new parent company and some subsidiaries, whilst being able to focus thoroughly on each area but also working closely enough to capture the synergies in between to continue working towards one common dream as one strong and united team.
And with that change, my good friend and fellow colleague, Frank Hennekens will take over my CEO role for our specialist services as of the 1st of January 2016. I will continue to lead our entrepreneurial endeavors through a new holding company - tretton37 - that will be the parent company for both our existing specialist services and also our new R&D Labs and Knowledge Platform that are to be established in the very near future.
Frank and I have been working closely together on our hand-over since last spring and he has already been taking care of our day-to-day business since then. We hope to have the new structure installed by the beginning of the New Year.
So, after just over 5 years in existence, we have managed to become a role-model in our industry as a specialist consultancy firm with nearly 100 passionate people based at our 4 offices around Sweden. Thanks to our unique culture we’ve created an international brand that has attracted brilliant people from 17 countries…
We have the privilege of having gained the trust of a whole host of fantastic, exciting and diverse clients ranging from global industrial giants such as Alfa Laval and Tetra Pak, to high-tech firms with their game-changing technologies such as Verisure, Securitas and Axis. We are also proud of having worked with many global actors outside of Sweden that are looking for quality and innovation on the international market; such as Deutsche Bahn from Germany.
Throughout the years we have also managed to create one of the most appreciated community conferences in Europe – Leetspeak. This is just one of the many ways in which we have been doing our very best to support our developer community, share knowledge and inspire others to do so as well.
What’s more, we have done all of this without compromising our core values and focus on quality, whilst maintaining profitability since day 1 - with no external capital or any inherited infrastructure. In other words we’ve gone from literally nothing with no resources at hand, to this - a massive future potential for the next 5 years thanks to a strong platform that we have built over the last 5 years.
I am so proud to have been a part of this journey together with my fellow colleagues who have been amazing throughout these 5 short (yet very long) years. I cannot thank them enough for all of their hard work, dedication, brains and heart that they have brought to the table, but also for the patience that they’ve shown throughout the implementation of this long term strategy to reach to this point. I am also very thankful to all of our clients and all of our community members who have trusted, supported and cheered for us along the way.
So, as I said, we believe in challenging the norm to progress, and now it’s time for us to challenge it once again. After 5 fantastic years with great results, I’m really looking forward to being a part of the next 5 years which are destined to be even more exciting.
Keep watching us - we will not disappoint you!
